Franklin has a population of around 1,370 with a land area of 39.2 square miles. That translates to a population density of about 38 people per square mile.

The Franklin Community Center, which also houses the town office, began life as the First Free High School in 1903-1904. The newest addition is the vault, a 20-foot-by-23-foot fireproof, climate-controlled room that will house town records dating back to 1813. Phase three, which won’t materialize for several years, will be a new $1-million meeting space with a kitchen, restrooms and other features.
